Play Date to Date Night: Bermuda Shorts

Shorts aren't usually my first pick for a date night, or any time, really - I'm much more of a skirt person.  But this summer, I've been really loving a couple of pairs of skinny bermudas I have.  I especially love this pink pair that I hacked from a pair of pants.  The shape and pretty color are perfect for transitioning from the park to a night out.

Play Date

Earlier this summer, I was having trouble finding some bermudas that weren't too wide and baggy - not exactly the cutest look (unless they're trouser cut).  I like that these are nice and slim and are a great color for transitioning from day to night.  As far as daytime, they're bright and fun, and I love pairing them with a cute what I like to call "stepped up tee."  It's basically a tee shirt (and as comfortable as one), but has a fun print, a cute cut (rounded hem, mid-length sleeves, and a slightly boxy fit), and an adorable detail with the bow tie back.

Since the top is neutral, I love pairing the bright shorts with a bunch of pops of bright colors with the accessories.  It's easy to go overboard with this, so you probably don't want a million big splashes of color.  But I love some little pops all in bright, beachy/summery shades so that they all seem fun together and play off each other.  I added a side braid to keep my hair off my face/neck but without giving me the headache of a top knot (joys of uber thick hair).  It all comes together as an unfussy way to snuggle with books on the couch or swing at the park.

Date Night

Since the shorts are a slim cut and a pretty, girly color, it makes them fairly easy to transition to a casual date night outfit.  The bow back is feminine and sweet, and the cute hem is perfect for a half tuck to show off a sparkly belt.  Gold and pink are one of my favorite girly combos, so I added some pretty heels to go along with the belt.  I put on some pearls, threw my hair up in a top knot, added a bright lip, and was ready for some much needed one-on-one time.
